1000 Faces Mask Theater performed the play “Cassandra Ignored Again” at Floydfest 14 | July 22-26, 2015 – Fire On The Mountain.
FloydFest is a roots and progressive world music festival taking place every July in Floyd, VA. “Cassandra Ignored Again” is based on the Greek myth about Cassandra who was endowed with the gift of prophecy, but cursed to never be believed.
In this new production, Cassandra represents all the scientists and activists who are warning us of the irreversible destruction of the environment. In the same way that Cassandra was cursed, scientists have had to struggle against the denial of the severity of our environmental crisis. The play culminated with an ofrenda, which is an altar made in Mexico during Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations. On this day, people remember family and friends who have died. Our ofrenda honored all the plants, animals, people and habitats that have died due to our disregard for planet earth.
